In Ireland, a pharmacy or chemist sells basic medical items, ‘over the counter’ pain killers (e.g. paracetamol), cough medicines etc. The role of the pharmacist has grown with pharmacists providing Emergency Contraception without a prescription and also the flu vaccine. If your GP gives you a prescription for medicine, bring this paper to your pharmacy/chemist. The pharmacy will give you medicine. Please ask the pharmacist to explain to you how much medicine you should take and how often.
